Whaddya Think?

So, I had lots of time at the computer at switchboard .... two exams to avoid writing .... and a very cool book that finally gave me the guts to try something new.
I can even do fancy-schmancy block quotes now!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated .... colors, layout, throw it all away, run away from the computer forever, can I pay you millions to fix mine up half-as-pretty, like it matters .... anything like that.

Hi, Steph!

I do have one suggestion regarding the layout. The reverse type in the acutally blog entries hurts my eyes a bit. It is fine on the sidebar... but too much of it is hard to read....

Or maybe it is just me?

Otherwise, good job! (by the way, I commented on the post about the presents from your brother... and i wasn't sure if you ever checked old posts for comments... so I am letting you know. I commented.)

Hrm... I thought I'd be all clever and give you a call while you were still on duty... I dialed the main number from the bottom of the homepage, but alas, I got a delightfully clueless (and somewhat deaf, perhaps) sister that was not you. I finally just said, "Ok, sorry, nevermind" and hung up.

How does a girl get your number when you're hiding out on the hill? Call me if'n ya want and I can call you back.

Cool. Kinda fun to play with the web stuff. Blogger's rather unfriendly image handling irks me so I don't event bother to get all fancy. Enjoy your book!

As a graphic designer for the past 25 years let me just say from a technical standpoint, white type on a black background is very difficult to read. It's not just kiker.

Most designers avoid it unless they're using headline type, which in that case, the type is large enough and there aren't a lot of words to read, so it works.

I would encourage you to switch to black text on a white background considering your posts are thoughtful and require a bit of concentration. You, my dear, are not a cat blogger.

One lesson I learned as a designer a long time ago...do not design anything because you think it looks good. There are rules to follow and those rules exist because many of them work. Some, of course, are made to be broken. But the basics are tried and true.

For instance, using all caps is not just about yelling. It is very difficult to read sentences that are all caps because the human eye tends to scan the tops of letters. If you use lower case you have variety in letter forms. If you use upper case, you don't. See? Designing is not all, "Hey, that looks cool, let's do that."

Of course, it's your blog and you can do what you want. Your loyal fans will still check out what's on your mind. But as a designer, my advice is, the easier you make it on the user, the better.

i just switched my colors and entire template because i had so much blue, darkness that it was making me nutty.

as if i needed an excuse.

also, i read a while back that it is recommended there be a lot of white space and it makes it easier to read. i add my pics and stuff to bring in the color.

but again, regardless of your color scheme, i'm a faithful reader :)

I would just like to state for the record that my book does not advocate white text on black backgrounds. :)

But I'm glad you're finding it useful nonetheless!

I like the new layout. I have been trying to fancy mine up but haven't had much time lately. The only thing is that I personally have a hard time reading white lettering on black background.

Keep up the creative work!
